If you’re looking for the perfect whisky experience, then you should head to Johnnie Walker Edinburgh Princes Street. It really is an experience, even if you are not a whisky connoisseur – the moto at Johnnie Walker is to drink whisky “your way” – so it’s not only for the purists.
Since 1820, Johnnie Walker has been crafting some of the finest whiskies in the world, and now you can explore and discover their renowned range of whiskies at their flagship store on Edinburgh’s Princes Street, in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.
Discovering Johnnie Walker Edinburgh Princes Street
There are a number of different “experiences” to book, and we opted for the “Journey of Flavour”. The tour takes you on the Johnnie Waker history journey with interactive performances and your tour guide will show you into various rooms to learn all about the process, and allows you to taste the whisky on the way (the best part of the tour!). During the tastings, you’ll have the opportunity to sample a range of Johnnie Walker whiskies, including the iconic Johnnie Walker Black Label and the exclusive Johnnie Walker Blue Label and you’ll be taken on a journey of flavour, learning how the different whiskies are blended and discovering the secrets of whisky production.
- The tour starts with an introduction to the four main regions of Scotland where whisky is produced and the distinct flavors that each one produces.
- Guests then learn about the ingredients that go into making whisky, including barley, water, and yeast, and the process of malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and maturation.
- A display of traditional copper stills showcases the different sizes and shapes that are used for producing various whiskies.
- A timeline of Johnnie Walker’s history highlights key moments in the brand’s 200-year history, including its expansion across the globe.
- A virtual reality experience takes visitors on a journey through the Scottish countryside to see where Johnnie Walker sources its ingredients and where the whisky is made.
The tour ends up in a bar where you get to relax with a further two whiskeys to try. It really opened our eyes to what to add to your glass to enhance the drink – sundried tomatoes, nutmeg, bay leaves, and more. It’s the perfect way to end the tasting experience.
We would recommend booking into the roof terrace bar to extend your visit, with unique views over Edinburgh, which include Edinburgh Castle – it really is breathtaking.
Finding the Perfect Souvenir at the Johnnie Walker Shop
As you exit the Johnnie Walker Experience, make sure to stop by the Johnnie Walker store to bring home the perfect souvenir of your visit. The store offers a wide range of products, from limited edition bottles to barware and even clothing items.
If you’re looking to bring home a special bottle of whisky, the store offers exclusive releases that are only available at the Princes Street location. These bottles are often limited in production and are sure to impress any whisky lover.
